Language- A hands-on approach
Maria Montessori believed that language learning begins at birth and flourishes through rich sensory experiences. At Rising minds, children are introduced to basic language concepts through pre-language activities such as matching, sequencing, vocabulary-
building exercises and tactile materials like sandpaper letters, magnetic alphabet boards, sound boxes and picture cards. Materials like the pink and blue series and movable alphabet boxes help them transition from recognizing sounds to forming words and sentences. Our library and bob book series foster a love for reading and self-
expression.
Practical Life- Building independence through practical life skills
Inspired by Maria Montessori’s belief in the child’s ability to learn through purposeful work, these exercises promote independence, concentration and responsibility. Tasks like tying shoelaces, folding clothes, setting the table, pouring, buttoning, sewing etc. refine their fine motor skills and gross motor coordination, but also instill a deep sense of self reliance and pride in one’s ability to accomplish tasks by themselves. At Rising Minds we provide new activities based on our themes or events and holidays, in order to provide relevance and opportunities to explore.
Sensorial- Sharpening the senses through Montessori materials
Maria Montessori believed that children learn best through their senses. Sensory activities in a Montessori environment help refine perception by isolating specific qualities such as color, texture, sound and size. At Rising minds, materials like the Pink tower, Sound cylinders, baric tablets, Shapes boxes and knobbed cylinders enhance a child’s ability to classify sensory information and understand the world through their senses. These hands-on activities help to strengthen concentration and problem-solving skills while preparing the mind for advanced concepts in math, language and science.
Math- Love for numerical concepts
Maria Montessori believed that mathematical understanding develops naturally when children engage in hands-on exploration. Montessori math materials such as number rods, sand board numbers, Golden beads, spindle boxes, binomial cubes, square
chains and cube chains provide concrete experiences that help children grasp abstract concepts. At Rising minds by learning to use these materials and their concepts children develop a strong foundation in counting, place value and mathematical operations
fostering a deep and lasting understanding.
Science- Nurturing a scientific mindset
Maria Montessori believed that children are natural scientists, eager to explore and understand the world. At Rising Minds, science is introduced through every week themes which have hands-on activities that encourage observation, experimentation and discovery. Through interactive materials like magnifying glasses, classification cards and simple experiments, children are exposed to scientific learning. Whether studying the life of a butterfly, mixing substances to learn about chemical reactions or exploring the solar system, children develop critical thinking skills and a scientific mindset. We hold a Science fair every year to encourage our little scientists to present their favorite experiments to our school parents and friends’ community.
Art and Crafts- Creative form of Expression
Maria Montessori believed that art and crafts are essential for self-expression and creativity. At Rising Minds, children explore various artistic mediums using color pencils, oil pastels, color chalks, watercolors, paints etc. They can express themselves through stamping, stencil work, tracing, punching shapes and pasting, playdough work, cutting work, sponge art, dot painting, spray painting and collage work. Rather than focusing on the final work, the emphasis is on the creative process and self-expression,
allowing children to develop their fine motor skills, concentration and an appreciation for beauty making art a meaningful experience.
Geography- Discovering the world
Maria Montessori believed that understanding the world fosters respect and appreciation for different cultures. At Rising Minds, geography and cultural studies come to life through materials like globes, puzzle maps, continent themes, landforms and flags. Our children make their own maps and proudly carry them home. Exploration of cultures, clothing, people, traditions, festivals and artifacts help them appreciate diversity, understanding global connections and a respect for humanity and our planet.
